Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Class 1 CurriculumWelcome to the family
Class 1 (Reception) is the start of our children’s journey at St. Peter’s. We welcome all children to our Reception family; not just Catholics. For more information about Admissions, please visit our Admissions Arrangements page.
Reading and Phonics
Children start their reading journey by learning Phonics in Reception and Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2). At St. Peter’s, we use the Twinkl Phonics scheme. Parents can find out more information about Twinkl Phonics by clicking here.
Curriculum
Reception
Unlike the other classes, Reception children study the same Curriculum every year. In Reception, we practice adaptive teaching, meaning we let the children or events lead the learning. This means that sometimes our planning changes direction so that we can meet the children’s interests or needs. Our intended Curriculum is found below:
Autumn Term 1
Autumn Term 2
Spring Term 1
Wellbeing Week
Spring Term 2

Summer Term 2
Curriculum Enhancements
We know that children learn best when they are experiencing new things. Enquiring, exploring and immersing themselves in their learning. We do the following activities to enhance their experience across the curriculum and to strengthen their Cultural Capital.
Autumn Term

We go to the Theatre to watch the Pantomime.
We go to Church to celebrate feasts such as Christmas and Harvest.
We collect food for the Food Bank.

We went to Atwell Farm on our first School Trip!
Summer Term
